Infinite Magic Glories [Mar. 6th, 2015|10:39 pm]
thekinginyellow

Minneapolis is a pleasant and wholesome kind of city.  Nothing can change that -- not even recurring attacks from Void Terrors eager to feast on the warmth of human hearts.  Not when the city has its own coterie of magical girls and mystic warriors to stand against them!

And this weekend is the weekend of Queen Alisana's big annual house party, when magic-wielders from across the USA gather to catch up with each other and celebrate the year's triumphs.  With so many powerful fighters around, the city is bound to be extra safe!

It's been ten years or so since Earth was opened up to the Jeweled Beyond: a spangled infinity of worlds beyond the world, a place where anything is possible and where truth is reshaped by will.  The Beyond is a source of great danger.  It is a home to strange breeds of spiritual predators.  But it is also a source of great power...for a select few.

The Shining Princesses, and occasionally Shining Princes, are repositories for the hopes and dreams of mankind.  They are chosen -- no one knows how -- to be rulers and guardians for paradise realms that glitter out in the Beyond, built from the collective desires of many, able to shelter the souls of those who need them.  It is a Princess's (or Prince's) honor and duty to defend her domain from anything that might threaten it, and that duty carries with it all the magical might of a world.

The Mystic Knights have heard, and answered, the call to strife and glory.  From time to time, the Beyond spits forth a powerful arcane artifact called a Grail -- perhaps in the heart of a Shining Realm, perhaps borne in the arms of an angelic entity -- and offers a few brave individuals the chance to claim it by triumphing in battle over their fellows.  Those who accept the challenge become fearsome warriors, able to manifest their very souls as swords.  Those who attain the prizes they seek, and become Grail Knights, develop greater and stranger powers yet.

(Most of those who are gifted with a Shining Crown are very young.  Almost all of them are female, to the point where the colloquial term for them is "magical girls."  Mystic Knights are similarly young, and the vast majority of them are male. Who can say why this should be so?  It is one of the many mysteries of the Jeweled Beyond.)

The Princesses and the Knights, between them, are humanity's first and last line of defense against the predations of slavering Void creatures...and against other, more insidious, threats.  Unscrupulous renegade magic-users, desperate for mystic power, wreak much harm when they are not stopped by their fellows.  Mad demiurges use the power of the Beyond to weave new realities around themselves, and then go to war with all existence, seeking to overwrite it.  And veteran magic-wielders whisper of Void Terrors that are not so mindless as their fellows, cosmic horrors that can speak and think and scheme like men...

In the face of such peril, the tiny magical community within the US has coalesced into a relatively tight-knit subculture.  Its members tend to be closely involved with each other's lives.  And every year, a great many of them attend a house party hosted by the country's most senior magical girl, where friendships are renewed and community business is taken care of.

Infinite Magic Glories is a LARP for (maybe?) 20 PCs, lasting (maybe?) six hours.  We hope to see you there.
